RV Park Near Huntsville, AL
Huntsville is about 45 minutes north of Guntersville, and it makes for one of the best day trips in the region. Whether you’re into space history, good food, or getting out on a trail, there’s enough here to fill a full day. Here are our three favorite stops to help you make the most of it.
Things to do while in Huntsville

U.S. Space & Rocket Center
Huntsville earned the nickname “Rocket City” because this is literally where the rockets that put humans on the moon were built. It’s the largest space museum in the world and the official visitor center for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. You can walk beneath a suspended, full-length Saturn V moon rocket and stand in front of the world’s only full-stack Space Shuttle display. There’s also a planetarium, flight simulators, and the legendary Space Camp on the same grounds. It’s about 45 minutes from Guntersville and well worth the drive.

Downtown Huntsville
Downtown Huntsville has done a lot of growing up in recent years, and the food and drink scene alone is worth the trip. The Five Points neighborhood is packed with locally owned restaurants, independent shops, and a local grocer, while the courthouse square area is lined with spots that range from casual to genuinely upscale. For dinner, Cotton Row is the longtime fine dining standby, serving inventive dishes rooted in French technique and Southern ingredients. After dinner, there are craft breweries, rooftop bars, and live music venues all within easy walking distance of one another.

Monte Sano State Park
If you’re ready to get off the water and onto a trail, Monte Sano State Park sits right on the eastern edge of Huntsville and offers a completely different kind of afternoon. The park rises more than 1,600 feet above sea level and covers 2,140 acres, with over 20 miles of hiking trails and 14 miles of mountain biking trails ranging from easy walks to more serious climbs. The 14 overnight cabins were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, each with hand-crafted stone fireplaces and original wood flooring. The overlooks offer sweeping views down into the Tennessee Valley, and in the spring the trails are lined with native wildflowers.
After a full day in Huntsville, the drive back to Guntersville is an easy one, and there’s nothing quite like coming back to your own fire ring after a day of exploring. At Knot Working Tiny Town, your RV site or tiny home rental will be right where you left it, ready for you to kick your feet up and wind down. If you haven’t locked in your stay yet, we’d love to have you.
